“For combat sports, Las Vegas is the center of the world.”
- Ben Stanoff, Owner & Pro Fighter, Nemea Boxing Gym
In the electric atmosphere of an Oklahoma boxing arena, the stage was set for a super bantamweight clash (Promoted by Lydell Rhodes). The crowd was buzzing with anticipation for the pro debut of a rising star - Jose "Manos De Oro'' Lara. From the first bell, it was evident that the evening was about to witness something special.
Jose, a master of finesse in the ring, wasted no time in asserting his dominance. With his smooth footwork and commanding ring presence, he showcased a level of skill that belied his newcomer status. As the bell rang, Jose glided across the canvas with an almost familiar ease, displaying an impeccable sense of ring awareness that left his opponent befuddled.

Known for his lightning-fast hand speed, Jose exploited this advantage to its fullest. He bobbed and weaved with incredible head movement, evading punches with a grace that made it seem as if he could predict his opponent's every move. His counters were sharp and precise, a testament to his innate boxing acumen.
This "switch-hitter" exhibited a remarkable facet of his skill set, transitioning quietly between southpaw and orthodox stances. This strategic approach not only showcased his versatility but also consistently kept his adversary off balance and mentally fatigued.
Despite facing a visibly larger opponent, Jose remained steadfast. His conditioning, a result of his dedication, was evident as he absorbed clean and grazing shots to the chin and body, standing his ground. Like a matador in the ring, he deftly sidestepped over a dozen punches, rendering the headhunter's power punches ineffective.
Jose's supremacy was further exemplified in his strategic control of the fight's tempo. With precise movements, he moved in and out of the pocket, dictating the pace and rhythm of the contest. His opponent struggled to mount any effective offense, while Jose continued to land punishing shots at will. Jose was unavailable for comment but you can see his next bout this October.
But what truly set Jose apart was his ability to seamlessly integrate all aspects of his skill set during the bout. This allowed him to craft multiple opportunities for intricate combinations and to maneuver into positions of advantage. What shone most brilliantly was his composure. In an arena often fraught with raw aggression, Jose displayed a strategic poise that is often rare among newcomers to the professional scene.

Amidst the vast sea of aspiring fighters, Jose Lara and the Nemea gym emerge as a beacon of promise for Las Vegas and the broader boxing community. Alongside him, on that same fight day, Las Vegas talent Rudy "Hammer Hands" Reveles established his dominance, on short notice, securing a commanding TKO victory under the Nemea banner. This dual triumph underscores the burgeoning power of Las Vegas boxing and the Nemea Gym, marking a transformative moment in the sport's evolution & development. Rudy was unavailable for comment, but is ready to get back into the ring for the right fight.
In addition to his role as Nemea owner and professional fighter, Ben Stanoff adeptly balances his own training for professional fights with mentoring his stable of competitive fighters and overseeing classes catering to various skill levels. His strong network of fighters and local advocates exemplifies the community spirit. Ben is currently training for an upcoming professional bout and will be tracked by our team. Announcement forthcoming.
Envisioning a promising trajectory for the 20-year-old | 5 '6 |135lb Jose, Ben confidently remarks, "Jose has passed the test and has the power" to triumph over larger opponents, attributing his success to skill training and impeccable stamina under conditioning coach Paul Longworth.
What's truly exciting is that Nemea is just six months old. If current success and momentum are indicative of what's to come, the future holds immense promise for both the gym and its fighters.
As the global boxing community keeps a watchful eye on Las Vegas' emerging talents, it becomes increasingly evident that Jose is a harbinger of a meteoric rise. The stage is set and Jose's star is destined to rise.
In this column, I will dive into Las Vegas boxing gyms, bouts, fighters, and communities. Stay tuned!
